Winter solstice marks the shortest day of the year, when the northern pole of Earth reaches its maximum tilt away from the Sun. During winter solstice, the daylight arrives later and the night settles earlier than on any other date. This also means that after solstice the days will begin to grow longer and we will receive a little more light everyday—a great reason to celebrate this moment in the annual cycle!
On Saturday, December 21, we’re celebrating the winter solstice and the start of our winter season with a day full of special activities. Your family can create nature-crafted ornaments, help decorate a tree for wildlife, take a winter walk, and even cross-country ski if we have snow! Visitors can also enjoy a mindful walk around the solstice spiral before enjoying hot cocoa and popcorn back at the nature center.
Activities will be ongoing from 10am-4pm. Tickets available online or at the door.
